designer pages
designer pages t-shirt on DP chief product officer, avi flombaum
Designer Pages is an online network for people in the architecture and design industries. They asked me to design a t-shirt that was both branded and wearable.
designer pages t-shirt, silkscreen plate
I Based this design on their
“simple way to find products” ad campaign. The t-shirt illustrates Designer pages ability to “find products.” Using the letter of the Designer Pages logo as stand-ins for products, the graphic is a tongue-in-cheek portrait of a search query.
bread print, 1
arnold country white, silkscreen 8x11, 2008
The first in a larger series, this print is an exact replica of a middle slice of the Arnold bread company’s “Country White.” The series is an attempt to catalogue the design choices of commercial bread companies as they distinguish themselves in the marketplace. Everything from the slice’s profile and size to the color and texture has been carefully chosen. These prints are four-color process hand-silscreened from scanned images.

By spending time, and adding the human touch, the slice stops being simply a consumer product. No longer the unsung hero of a peanut-butter and jelly, we can appreciate the slice as an art object, the result of a careful design process generated by the consumer market. The bread slice is a study in permutations within a limited visual palate. Check back as the series develops.
B'nei Habonim, prayer book

habonim siddur, back, 2008
I was approached by the Rabbis at Congregation Habonim to design their 60 page children’s prayer book. The book is for the congregation’s multiple children’s services, and they wanted the prayer book to be inviting to children over a range of ages, as well as sophisticated and modern for the design-conscious parents that would also attend the services with their young children.

My main goal was to create a typographic system that could incorporate the Hebrew prayer text, titles, transliteration, and translation in a way that is both visually appealing and easy to understand across multiple spreads.

I also wanted to implement visual elements that were both fresh and educational in their own way. Each section has a system of graphics that incorporates overlapping patterns of two out of three colors for print, cyan, magenta, and yellow. This gives each section a distinct color system as well as an introduction to color for the curious child.
Columbia Business School
real suit drive, poster, 2008
In a partnership with Times Square Inc. and Brooks Brothers, the retail group at Columbia Business School organized a charitable clothing drive. The poster needed to be funny and eye-catching enough to compete on cluttered campus boards while maintaining the urgency and sobriety of the cause. The posters helped the drive become success, leading to $10,000 in charitable donations.

american living invite, 2008
Under the art direction of
Doreen Maddox at Blue Inc., I designed this invitation for the launch of the Ralph Lauren/JC Penney collaboration, American Living. The invitation needed to re-enforce the emerging brand’s carefully tailored identity of pastoral Americana, and Kennedy-inspired leisure for the every-day consumer.

rock, 60 degree angle, animated gif, 2008
Part of an ongoing series of artifacts, this gif is comprised of photos taken of a single object rotated at perfect 120 degree angles. The photos are ultimately turned into silkscreens, but i like this animated gif for its meditative properties.
